Sean M. Kelley

Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Texas Medical Management (formerly Texas Free Market Surgery)

With over 25 years of business experience as founder and owner and more a decade of experience in healthcare, Sean was inspired to co-found and lead a disruptive surgery provider, Texas Medical Management. The company is disintermediating the healthcare market by direct contracting with non-traditional payers to deliver the highest quality surgical care at fair, all-inclusive, transparent prices. In his company’s model, doctors win, patients win, and employers/payers win.

Sean’s experience is further shaped by many years as a patient, as the only non-physician sibling in his family and by more than a decade at a major healthcare system. His gestalt is that while many physicians desire to change the world, they are trapped in obsolete mental models and misaligned/maligned business models. The solution is the Quadruple Aim: better patient outcomes at lower costs and improved experience for patients and providers alike. The low hanging fruit is eliminating bureaucracy and administrative complexity and its cost; this alone frees physicians to spend more time caring for patients.

Prior to Texas Medical Management, Sean spent over 20 years in leadership roles in the energy, transportation, technology and healthcare sectors. He has worked extensively abroad with stints in Central America (Costa Rica; 1993-95) and most recently in South America (Venezuela and Trinidad; 1999-2003). Prior to his work in SA, Sean led an LBO of an established marine industry company and managed the business for several years (1996-2000) in New Iberia, LA.

Sean received his MBA and BBA from the University of St. Thomas in Houston and an MS in Technology Commercialization/Entrepreneurship from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. From 2010-14, he was a founding member of the Healthcare Initiative Advisory Board at the McCombs School.

Sean dedicates time to serving his community by coaching youth sports and supporting his church, St. John Neumann Catholic Church, by leading youth catechesis, serving Mobile Loaves & Fishes and Christ Renews His Parish.
Sean is married to a wonderful Tica (Costa Rican) and they have three above-average children. He and his family are blessed to live in Austin, TX since 2005.
